General Situation: An Illuminated painting
16th January - 23rd February, 2025
Illuminated paintings fill the windows of an empty shop unit in Abbey Wood, lit from behind to provide a beacon in dull winter light.
I made this painting thinking about human resilience in troubled times. These are bleak times, perhaps they always are, because humans like to fight. But also humans love one another and survive. I feel hopeful about this.
I made this painting as a literal and metaphorical beacon of hope during the gloomiest month of the year in the hope that it would light up Cygnet Square and bring some colour and cheer to the people that use the square.
There are a limited amount of working paintings and drawings for sale that I used in making this work - please email for details.
Thanks to Peabody for their funding support.
This is an enormous painting installation, with 65m sq of illuminated painting. It's been great to work on, and a technical challenge in places.
